چکیده

Abstract Dense environmental barrier coatings (EBCs) are an essential prerequisite to exploit the advantages offered by SiC‐based fiber reinforced ceramic matrix composites (CMCs) increase efficiency in gas turbines. Today's state‐of‐the art materials for application as EBCs rare‐earth (RE) silicates which, however, form amorphous phases upon rapid quenching from melt. This makes their processing thermal spray a challenge. Recently, high velocity oxygen fuel (HVOF) spraying was proposed potential solution since melting degree of feedstock can be controlled effectively. work studies deposition ytterbium disilicate (YbDS) at short stand‐off distances and variant total feed rates oxy‐fuel ratios working gas. It found that overall crystallinity could kept level above 90%. The kinetic energy transferred impinging particles effective parameter control densification coatings. Porosities well below 10% were achieved while fully dense impeded due progressive accumulation stresses

Application of High-Velocity Oxygen-Fuel (HVOF) Spraying to the Fabrication of Yb-Silicate Environmental Barrier Coatings

From the literature, it is known that due to their glass formation tendency, it is not possible to deposit fully-crystalline silicate coatings when the conventional atmospheric plasma spraying (APS) process is employed. In APS, rapid quenching of the sprayed material on the substrate facilitates the amorphous deposit formation, which shrinks when exposed to heat and forms pores and/or cracks. T...

Stresses in Ytterbium Silicate Multilayer Environmental Barrier Coatings

The internal stresses of plasma-sprayed multilayer ytterbium disilicate environmental barrier coatings were measured using microfocused high-energy X-rays in a transmission geometry. Stresses were measured for as-sprayed and ex-situ heat-treated ytterbium disilicate topcoats at room temperature and during in-situ heating and cooling experiments. In-situ loading experiments were also performed o...

Possibilities of Utilization High Velocity Oxygen Fuel (hvof) Coatings in Conditions of Thermal Cyclic Loading

The item deals with the possibilities of utilization HVOF coatings in thermal cyclic loading conditions. There were evaluated three types of coatings based on WC-Co, WC-Co-Cr and Cr3C2-25NiCr. The quality of coatings was evaluated in terms of their adhesion as sprayed and also during the cyclic thermal loading, EDX analysis and evaluation of microhardness. Construction and structure of coatings...

Mullite and Mullite/ZrO2-7wt.%Y2O3 Powders for Thermal Spraying of Environmental Barrier Coatings

Mullite and mullite/ZrO2-7wt.%Y2O3 coatings could be thought among the main protective layers for environment barrier coatings (EBCs) to protect Si-based substrates in future gas turbine engines. Considering that feedstock of the compound powder is not commercially available, two powder processing routes Spray Drying (SD) and Flame Spheroidization (FS) were implemented for both types of powders...

Graphene Oxide Bionanocomposite Coatings with High Oxygen Barrier Properties

In this work, we present the development of bionanocomposite coatings on poly(ethylene terephthalate) (PET) with outstanding oxygen barrier properties. Pullulan and graphene oxide (GO) were used as main polymer phase and nanobuilding block (NBB), respectively. The oxygen barrier performance was investigated at different filler volume fractions (ϕ) and as a function of different relative humidit...
